The Burgate School Catchment Area:
Please see the link below for our school catchment area. We are also very proud that each year many parents from outside of our school catchment choose to send their children to our school. With a comprehensive school bus network serving a wide local area, The Burgate is accessible to many students wishing to study with us.
Visiting the school: Each year we offer Year 5 Taster Days in the summer term - online registration for this event opens each year via our website after Easter. We offer a block of Year 6 tours in September, again with online booking opening from August. This block of tours allows plenty of time to view the school before making applications for Year 7 in the autumn. If you are looking for an in-year school move or unable to visit the school during the open events above then please contact the admissions team and where possible we will be happy to organise a tour at another time.
Burgate School Welcome Video:
The welcome video introduces parents and students to our school but if you would like to arrange a visit then please call or email and we will be very happy to offer a tour: View here.
School Prospectus: Get a glimpse of the things we offer our students and how we support their journey either digitally here or please request a copy of our new school prospectus.
Admissions Questions: Should you have any questions that we have not answered in our video or in the prospectus, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
“Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the high quality of education and, particularly, the exceptional level of pastoral care that pupils receive at this school.” Ofsted 2019
Applications for Year 7 (main round) places:
Applications must be submitted through the local education authority within which you live by the end of October. If you live in a different county to our school, you can still place The Burgate as your first choice. At the beginning of March places are allocated by the local education authority in line with our school admissions policy and parents are informed of the outcome of their application. From there those successful at securing a place at The Burgate will receive a Welcome Pack and will begin a comprehensive induction process to ensure a successful transition for each child.
The Burgate School has over 25 feeder schools ranging across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. At times a student can be the only one transitioning to The Burgate from their Junior School which may make them apprehensive about starting school. Our comprehensive pastoral system aims to support all students particularly those who are uncertain or anxious about September.
We have a Headstart programme designed to support students identified as needing any additional support with the transition to secondary school which in the Summer Term of Year 6 alleviates fears and anxieties through a series of visits where fun group activities, tours of the school and opportunities to meet other new students and key staff can all help with the transition. The students involved say that it has a hugely positive effect and that they feel much more confident about starting with us as a result!
