The Burgate School Catchment Area:
We are very proud that each year many parents from outside of our school catchment choose to send their children to our school. With a comprehensive school bus network serving a wide local area, The Burgate is accessible to many students wishing to study with us.
Open Events Autumn Term 2020
This year as a result of the COVID-19 crisis we are unable to welcome prospective Year 7 applicants to traditional open days but Team Burgate have been working on a few other things that we hope will give both parents and students a glimpse of Burgate life and answer some of the questions you will have.

“Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the high quality of education and, particularly, the exceptional level of pastoral care that pupils receive at this school.” Ofsted 2019
Applications for Year 7 places: Applications must be submitted through the local education authority within which you live by the end of October. If you live in a different county to our school, you can still place The Burgate as your first choice. At the beginning of March places are allocated by the local education authority and parents are informed of the outcome of their application. From there those successful at securing a place at The Burgate will receive a Welcome Pack and will begin a comprehensive induction process to ensure a successful transition for each child.
The Burgate School has over 25 feeder schools ranging across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. At times a student can be the only one transitioning to The Burgate from their Junior School which may make them apprehensive about starting school. Our comprehensive pastoral system aims to support all students particularly those who are uncertain or anxious about September. Our Headstart programme in the Summer Term of Year 6 alleviates these fears through fun group activities, tours of the school and opportunities to meet other new students and key staff. All students involved say that it has had a positive effect and that they feel much more confident about starting in September as a result!
Main round applications for a Year 7 places in 2021 must be made via the County Council you reside within by 31 October 2020, but please ensure you put us as number one when ranking your school choices.
