Curriculum Intent

Our Learning 4 Life Curriculum encompasses PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, Economic), statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) as well as exploring British Values (BV), and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development.

Learning 4 Life is a chance to give every Burgate student the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive now and in the future. This includes helping them to deal with critical issues they face every day such as friendships, emotional wellbeing, and change. It gives them a solid foundation for whatever challenging opportunities lie ahead, so they can face a world full of confidence and hope. In short, it forms a key part of making our students curious, ambitious, and kind individuals for life.

Please note that Relationships, Sex and Health Education policy can be viewed in the policy area of this website.

Teaching of Learning 4 Life

Our Learning 4 Life curriculum is primarily taught through tutor lessons from Year 7, through to Year 13. It is also embedded across the whole curriculum. We aim to encourage every student to explore enrichment and career opportunities.

The Learning 4 Life curriculum is delivered in six distinct modules which allow students to have a clear learning journey and to build upon their knowledge year on year. These are:

-Wellbeing & Mental Health

-Physical & Sexual Health

-Relationships, Families and Friends

-Staying Safe and Managing Threats

-Celebrating Diversity & Equality

-Skills 4 Life

Understanding L4L lessons

Our L4L lessons are largely based on a PSHE resource bank provided by UniFrog. We adapt the lessons to suit the needs of our Burgate students and have sequenced them to meet our own unique L4L curriculum. Below is a sample of the lessons experienced by each year group. The information covers the lessons objectives, main tasks and vocabulary used in each lesson.

If you require more information on our resources please get in touch with the L4L lead eoldfield@burgate.hants.sch.uk
