Higher Prior Attainment (HPA) and Ambitious Students

At the Burgate School we are ambitious for all our students.  We want our students to believe in themselves and we encourage them to take all the opportunities that the school offers to support them in reaching their life goals.

The Burgate Ambition Project sets out our vision for our particularly ambitious students with how we will support ambition in our lessons, through a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and school trips and through specific Higher Prior Attainment Plus (HPA +) opportunities offered from Year 7 to Year 13.

HPA students are those who have scored an average of 110 or more in their Year 6 SATS.  It is the responsibility of all schools to ensure that the needs of these students are met and that they are stretched and challenged throughout their time in school.  At the Burgate, we recognise that we have students that have not achieved 110 or more in their SATS but who are ambitious and would thrive even more by being involved on these kinds of activities which is why we have broaden our HPA provision to HPA+ to signify the inclusion of all students at The Burgate who are ambitious and aim high.

The Ambition Project Learning Journey below shows many of the extra-curricular clubs and school trips offered in yellow boxes and the HPA+ opportunities in the boxes placed along the pathway through each year group.
