SMSC & British Values

We believe that British values encompass and promote the values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of these with different faiths and beliefs. At the Burgate School and Sixth Form we recognise the need to promote the fundamental principles of British values as part of our general approach to outstanding provision of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC).

We want every student to enjoy their learning and feel valued for who they are.

Our Burgate Expectations:

Be Safe

Be respectful

Be ready to learn

Through our teaching and wide range of activities, events and opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, we encourage our students to be tolerant and respectful towards others, embracing the differences in our community and the wider world. We understand that life in the 21st century will be strongly dependent on social interaction, locally and globally. We believe that the ability to form excellent relationships will be critical to our students’ learning and success in the future. We aim to challenge the thinking of all our students to ensure they are focused on how they can keep themselves and those around them safe, healthy and always ready to learn. Central to this belief is the need to ensure that British values are recognized and embedded in the school community.
